Letter From The Chief Executive Officer
Welcome to the Eta Mu chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Occidental College! Here at Occidental, we are a diverse group of college women that value scholarship, service, leadership, and personal excellence in order to strive to create the widest influence for good in our communities. Our members have an immense variety of interests, majors, and hobbies, and many of them hold leadership positions in a wide range of other organizations both on and off campus.
Membership in Kappa Alpha Theta provides many unique opportunities for college women. Not only does Theta connect us with other intelligent, talented, and ambitious women, but it also gives us a space to grow and learn from each other. We are able to do this through a vast array of programming planned and led by our officers, which ranges from fun sisterhood events like cycling classes and trips to Melrose Trading Post, to service events like helping out at the LA Food Bank and working with homeless women in the LA area, to exciting and classy events like our spring formal and our fall trip to Universal Studios.
We are also proud to support our national philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), through spreading awareness on campus and fundraising events like our Disco at Dusk event last spring. Through all of these experiences, we are able to form lasting friendships, create a strong support system for our members, and work to improve the lives and communities in the greater Los Angeles area.
To me, Theta represents a community of close knit women who are always there for each other academically, personally, and even after graduation and it is my sincere joy to be a part of that community. Theta has allowed me to form close bonds with my sisters, many of whom I consider to be some of my best friends, but beyond that it has given me opportunities to develop my skills as a leader and my character as a person. I cherish the connections I have made with my sisters here at Occidental and I look forward to forming connections with other Thetas across the country and the world throughout the rest of my life. My decision to join Theta has been one of the best of my college career and it enriches my life every day. I welcome anyone who is interested in joining our sisterhood and participating in our wonderful traditions to contact me with any questions regarding our chapter or our recruitment process.
Theta Love,
